Who Can Join Our Private Music Lessons?
I accept students ages 4 and up who have a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn music. In my lifetime I was fortunate to have worked with students of various ages and backgrounds. I customize my program to suit every student’s individual needs and musical desires. As my students grow musically, so will their program.
Individual Lessons
Individual, one-on-one lessons are currently offered in person (which will take place in my private music studio) or online via Zoom platform. Students will get to choose between 30, 45 or 60-minute weekly lessons. A full calendar month includes four consecutive lessons which are paid for in the beginning of the month. In cases where there is a fifth week in a particular calendar month, the fifth lesson is a bonus lesson. Attendance is key to progressive learning, but in cases of an emergency absence, I offer make-up lessons in the following weeks which will be discussed individually, on a need-to-need basis. Missed lessons without any given reason will not be made up.
I offer an extensive music program which means that my individual lessons are well-rounded and inclusive of both the instrumental performance (learning to play the instrument of your choice) as well as theory (learning the fundamentals of musical “language”). I assign my students weekly exercises and challenges to help them grow and achieve new goals in a timely manner. These challenges help them strengthen their playing skills, as well as being able to tackle difficult musical obstacles on their own through musical analysis, breaking down of the musical form, and other helpful tactics.
My program is designed to fit every students’ individual musical needs and desires as well as provide a good challenge for progressive musical growth. I customize my program to each student individually. This helps me to match the student’s level as well as learning style and help them in their further musical development. Everyone learns differently: some are visual learners, others are aural or kinesthetic learners. As teacher, it is my goal to explain concepts to students in a way that will help them understand it in their own learning style.
Group Lessons
In addition to one-on-one weekly lessons, I also offer musical group lessons. In our one-on-one, individual lessons, I like to focus all of my attention on my students’ individual musical needs, focusing more on musicianship, performance and musical technique . The purpose of group lessons, on the other hand, is to cover more written-type work including theory and musical history. Group lessons are fun, engaging and proactive. Students get to engage with one another, share their musical ideas and knowledge with each other and learn new concepts of music fundamentals. We take time to study musical pieces and understand rhythm, key signatures, musical progressions and many, many other topics.
In these group lessons, I like to incorporate a few fun learning activities, as well as assign quizzes/exams that students will be required to complete and turn in to me for a graded report of their progress. This helps both me, as the teacher, and my students see their progress and track how far they’ve gotten in a particular time period. I love to set goals and challenges for both myself and my students and find this to be a sufficient way of growing and learning.
Additionally to fun activities and games, I will incorporate different theory topics including: practicing various rhythmical patterns through clapping and counting; identifying melodic and rhythmic patterns in given musical examples; studying musical notes and being able to identify them quicker in a longer musical passage; and reviewing concepts covered during students’ private lessons and applying them to new forms of music.
Performances and Recitals
At least twice a year, I will host student recitals or performances with my music studio. Students will be able to perform for one another, as well as their friends and family, and demonstrate their most recent musical accomplishments. Students will be acknowledged and celebrated for their success and performance after completion of every level.
Teaching Materials
I understand that everyone learns differently which is why I composed a vast program curriculum that consists of multiple books and supplemental study materials. Some of my teaching material include of Alfred’s Piano Library, Nancy and Randall Faber method book sets, Fundamentals of Piano Theory by Keith Snell and Martha Ashleigh, as well as preparatory material for theory exams of the MTAC (Music Teachers Association of California). I also use a large array of books by individual composers and compilation books by genres and musical periods for levels Beginner to Advanced.
